J.T. Roy

J.T. Roy is a North Carolina-based children's book author who published his debut book, Millie Bananas Can’t Sleep, in 2025. As a software developer by day, J.T. unlocked a new passion for writing when his daughter's intricate bedtime routine and love for stories inspired him to write a book of his own.

Millie Bananas Can’t Sleep is about a cute little monkey who is just about to fall asleep when she realizes her parents forgot the most important step in her bedtime routine! Through rhyming and repetition, the whole family retraces their steps, trying to figure out what was missed. It’s a story kids love and one that's relatable for parents who feel like bedtime some nights, is like wrangling a wild pack of monkeys!

Story time with an interactive game | Life as an author | How a story becomes a book

I'm comfortable presenting to large groups or individual classrooms, whatever works best for the school. For smaller classes, the story will be read with a physical book and larger groups will require a screen for the digital version.

I will provide my own presentation materials and free bookmarks for all students!

Schools can pre-order books directly through me before the visit, but it's not required! If families wish to purchase a copy on their own, please encourage them to check their local independent bookstore before ordering through Amazon. Every purchase helps a small business and keeps the magic of small bookstores alive. If they don’t have it on the shelves, they can easily order it for you!
